Reducing the chances that today’s cultural dysfunction and inherited trauma will be passed down to future generations is the very foundation of healing our world is in such desperate need of.
No matter how invested the overculture is in invisibilizing mothers (so that it can continue to exploit us), and how unglamorous the role feels on any given day, our work is essential and our everyday investments and influence make all the difference.
Motherhood is power. Motherhood is political. We must wake up to this truth and come to revere motherhood, ourselves, if we’re ever to see a change in the way we’re revered by the rest of the world.
Every time you find yourself doubting the significance of your daily investments of time, energy, and love, remember: patriarchy depends on you forgetting your true power. It depends on you doubting your intuition. It depends on you buying into the lie that efficiency and perfection pursuit and self-sufficiency are essential to your happiness and sense of fulfillment.
The truth is that it’s easier to control and manipulate exhausted, self-doubting, desire-denying, soul-starved, “mechanized” moms than it is to control and manipulate self-trusting, resourced, connected, thriving ones.
A deep bow to the millions of mothers who are not only holding it all together, but doing the self- and generational-healing work necessary to change the course of history.
I see you.
I admire you.
I respect your work above that of all others.
Love love love,
