The way I see it, the true magic makers of this season are those of you…
…working tirelessly to hold healthy boundaries with loved ones who behave in toxic ways,
…protecting the truth of your worthiness and lovability from those threatened by your escape from familial dysfunction,
…dismantling family systems that you refuse to pass along to the next generation,
…speaking up when “keeping the peace” would require self-abandonment,
…and deciding for yourself what is worthy of your precious time and emotional investment.
YOU, sweet cultural healers, are my heroes and heroines.
And those of you with the added layer of navigating intersections of oppression? I see and acknowledge the extra weight you bear.
Non-traditional magic makers of all kinds, please be extra kind to yourself this season. You are doing BIG WORK that takes tremendous courage and strength. You don’t have to take on every battle or subject yourself to every “growth opportunity.” You don’t have to say yes to every invitation. Self-honoring is just as important as familial healing, and true healing often happens over decades, not in a matter of days.
Also, don’t forget: rest and joy and fun and play are part of the healing process, too.
