First and Foremost
Before you decide whether to explore this blog any further, it seems reasonable that I give you some idea of the way my mind works, in order for you to assess our compatibility from the get-go.
- I am a dreamer. Not the head-in-the-clouds type with a far-away look in my eye, but the lie-awake-at-night-trying-to-solve-the-world’s-problems type. You know, the kind who actually believes that a dedicated few can change the course of history. Though idealistic at heart, life has handed me just enough hard lessons for realism to have rounded my edges. Well, truth be told, realism and babies have rounded my edges.
- I consider myself a global citizen first and a U.S. citizen second. In this light, I share my perspectives with you having first lifted the often prohibitive veils of patriotism, favoritism or any other ism that might keep me from saying what I think needs to be said.
- I like it real. Authenticity and honesty are among my favorite human strivings. For this reason, I commit to offering my true self, despite what someone somewhere might think or the imperfections inherent to my humanness.
- I’m over trying to “do it all.” I fill my life with work, play and people I love, do my best to balance the chaos of raising a big family with my own personal needs and try my best to keep my priorities straight. As much as I would love to respond to every thoughtful, heartfelt comment and question I receive, there are simply not enough hours in the day. Please know that I truly cherish your kind words, appreciate your feedback and encourage your involvement here, whether you hear back from me or not. Don’t forget, you guys create this community as much as I do — by all means, connect with one another!
