Alright, folks. Somehow or another a month has passed and today’s the last day to send me a photo of your Home Work for Project #1

Remember the point of the exercise?

  • to get our hands in the dirt
  • to overcome obstacles to growing food
  • to plant seeds within our children
  • to encourage one another

The point was NOT “success” by some arbitrary measure (nor self criticism, for that matter). Just to prove my point, look what happened to the sweet little carton of seedlings pictured above…

The whole flat, save for one egg cup worth of basil shriveled up and died. And you know what? It’s okay — it’s part of the process. I now know that these herbs can’t handle even one day of dry soil, and am restarting them with greater awareness (and a covering of plastic).

So, SOMETIME TODAY, snap a photo of what you’ve started (choose a larger, rather than smaller image size), send it to me here, and don’t forget to include where you live at the very least. (A short description or lessons learned is optional.)

Tomorrow, I’ll be posting our collective results. Based on the level of participation, I’ll determine whether to throw out Home Work #2, which I’m REALLY excited about, so circle up, people! Whatcha got?

Oh, and I’m proud to announce that we all made it through the science fair in one piece, and that Eli, who spent an entire month in an utter state of dread ROCKED her presentation (even though the celery — unaccustomed to such outings — kinda wilted).

So come on all you busy mamas, procrastinators, and perfectionists still hoping to present something pin-able, there’s no time like the present!

  1. Soooo…I could send you a pic but it would be of the packages of seeds I just bought yesterday. Yes, literally. I did tell my 3 year old and he is excited. Now that we have a week off for March break we will endeavor to plant in the next couple of days.

Still love your posts even if I didn’t follow through very well!!

    • I’m good with that! Effort is effort. Your photo may motivate someone else to get started now, too, and besides, now is really a more sensible time for seed starting in most places anyway!

  2. I’m looking forward to seeing what others did. I’m also excited for assignment #2!
